third post - reflections
-------------------------------
now that the entire project is over and done with, it's time to do some reflecting.
alright collaboration tools was quite an interesting topic to do cuz it is something related to our everyday lifes. it was even better that we were doing comparisons between the instant messaging tools msn and icq cuz we're even more familiar with them.
it is still sinking into me how msn is gonna help formally in a company cuz it seems to be a tool that only kids would use. but hey all the ways that were highlighted to us in our research tells me that instant messaging is pretty cool for the way they are being used in enterprises and it's sure to work out. i mean freeing up phone lines and everything, it's a good deal man. you get to multi-task between doing work on the computer and exchaning knowledge with somebody else.
but the project had it's tough moments too. firstly it was hard to really determine what was actually required of us cuz the scope of collaboration tools, instant messaging, msn and icq is just too wide. there are so many things to compare about and it always seemed that we were leaving something out.
the presentation also proved to be a challenge cuz we had to present something that everybody is so familiar with. and we really had to understand our company case studies and to explain it. not to mention link everything to km.
but in all, it was pretty fun. and insightful. see knowledge gained again!

second post - lessons learnt
----------------------------------
ive decided to state some important learning points ive discovered from my project.
well first of all, cliche as it might seem at this point of time, collaboration tools are indeed very essential for km. this voices down to the thirst of knowledge and the being in a knowledge based economy. the need to COMMUNICATE is so important and there is a need for technology and appropriate tools to do so.
next, msn is like 10000000000000000 times more popular than icq cuz it is user-friendly and rather fool proof, unlike icq which has 2000000000000000 features that are rather unknown to many. a simple factor such has causing the program to hang whilst uploading a picture also plays a role in deciding people's choices.
soon instant messaging programs like msn and icq are gonna evolve from casual chatting tools to formal corporate tools through the implementation and expanding of enterprise editions. these enterprise editions will focus on security issues to keep important knowledge data safe.
the future for collaborating tools and instant messaging is undefinable. this is cuz of the ever changing technology and all the plans to help instant messaging tools be more than what they already are today.
that's all.

first post - enlightenments
-------------------------------
-project draft meeting #1-
came up with our objectives and project scope, as well as digging for some infomation on the background and statistical facts for icq and msn. oh yes 10 full pages of that, that would probably be useful to us in our project.
aiight we tried expanding our objectives. meaning instead of the objective always remaining as 'to use collaboration to facilitate knowledge transfer' kinda thing, we tried exploring to see if there were other objects that could be discovered and fulfilled along the course of this project. however never really got this going in the sense that we stagnated at 2 points. oh well, guess it needs some deeper thoughts, or a few more rounds of bridge for inspiration. heh.
it was interesting learning about how the enterprise editions of collaboration tools could help aid knowledge transfer. for example security issues would be taken into concern in the enterprise editions. well quite frankly i had never really heard of enterprise editions of collaboration tools before. talking to me bout msn being licensed and sold to huge organizations for their use is quite a laugh to me. guess it's cuz msn has become a huge part of my daily life, so much so that ive taken for granted it's security and overlooking certain useful functions that ive no use for. i mean msn to me is basically a form of leisure, a chatting tool to catch up with friends or to send mp3 files. not something id use to trade an organization's darkest secrets.
of cuz there are many other issues that run deeper waiting for us to discover.
ok it's also no huge surprise that collaboration tools such as icq are so widely received that it has been downloaded like 30,000,000 times. aiight ignoring the fact that people like lindsey have downloaded icq like 3 times already, it's still quite a huge number.
in conclusion, my new knowlege of kms has changed my perception of internet collaboration tools a great deal. it's no longer the kid's toy that it was once known to me. rather it is a really important and useful feature in technology that could really change the corporate world altogether in the near future.
